Welcome message from the General Director of Severance Hospital

Thank you for visiting the Severance Robot and MIS Center website.

Since its opening in 1885, Severance Hospital has been serving national health and leading the medical industry over the past 136 years. We also have been devoting enormous energy and skill to the development of advanced medical care for securing international competitiveness; every time we were facing with the spiral of transformation throughout our long history.

To push back the frontiers of robotic surgery, we aimed at achieving sustained growth in clinical, research, education and industry while building state-of-the-art infrastructures. In 2005, we became the first in Korea to introduce robotic surgery and currently have 8 surgical robots which was the largest number in Korea including the 2 da Vinci SP systems, the latest system, being used in 16 surgical specialties.

In 2019, Severance Hospital had achieved the first world record of 25,000 cases in robotic surgery as the first single institution and will be on the verge of achieving 30,000 cases upcoming the first quarter of 2021. In addition, we intended to solidify our presence on the world stage in clinical as well as academic researching field by publishing more than 350 papers, developing and establishing world’s first standardized robotic surgery procedures etc. We are about to take a big leap toward becoming the robotic surgery hub beyond Asia to the world.
